If you're out in the field, you may have noticed a new terminal out thereóthe T5000 ICE, from Hypercom. The T5000 Interact Customer Equipment (ICE) terminal is a touch-screen terminal that incorporates a PIN pad and an electronic signature capture pad, as well as Hypercom's FastPOS™ 9600 bits per second (BPS) modem. It also has a high-speed thermal printer and auto paper cutter. Receipts are printed at six lines per second.
The T5000 is built around a graphic touch-screen. The merchant selects the type of transaction on the touch-screen, swipes the card, enters the amount and turns the T5000 to face the customer who enters the PIN number or signs on the screen using a plastic stylus. Then, the screen provides an opportunity to deliver a customized advertising or other promotional message.
Since T5000 uses Fast POS technology; transactions can be completed in 3.6 seconds from the time of connection. It can also support value-added transactions, including loyalty and smart card schemes.
