Global Payment Systems and VeriFone have announced an agreement, which expands Global's ability to deliver secure Internet payment processing services. The development enables merchants to accept transactions based on both the SSL (Secure Socket Layer) and SET (Secure Electronic Transaction) protocols.
Through the agreement, Global will create an infrastructure for processing credit cards on the Internet using VeriFone's vGATE® Internet Gateway. The vGATE software allows Global to receive transactions directly from Internet-based merchants and perform credit card authorization, capture, and settlement/reconciliation services. In addition to vGATE software, the VeriFone solution includes vPOS® software, which allows merchants to accept Internet-based payments from a consumer, and vWALLET® software, which allows an Internet consumer to initiate an Internet transaction.
