U.S. Wireless Data Inc. (USWD), has added Maverick International Processing Services to its existing transaction processing solutions. USWD is targeting merchants who use the TRANZ 330, 380, or 460 dial-up terminals and offering a wireless system which uses the existing terminals in conjunction with USWD's products. The product is also being marketed to merchants who use other terminals or who don't accept credit card payments at all.
USWD converts the terminals with their TRANZ Enabler. The Enabler converts an existing dial-up TRANZ terminal into a high-speed wireless terminal. The wireless transaction uses a service provider's wireless CDPD network, takes three to five seconds, and does not require a dedicated or shared phone line, which makes the product attractive to mobile merchants, mall kiosks, taxi/limo drivers, and delivery personnel.
