BUYPASS Corporation, a
third-party POS processor and debit transaction acquirer based in
Atlanta, recently announced that they processed more than one billion
transactions in 1997. Now one in every 10 POS transactions is
processed by BUYPASS.
Specifically,
Point-of-Sale debit volume grew 37 percent and electronic benefits
transfer (EBT) volume grew 76 percent from fourth quarter 1996
volumes. In total, the fourth quarter of 1997 produced a processing
volume of more than 280 million transactions, 33.5 percent higher
than the fourth quarter of 1996.

News:
- PMT Services,
Inc. signed one of 11 new contracts with
BUYPASS.
- BUYPASS began
processing (EBT) for San Bernadino County, CA. This brings the
number of EBT states up to 25.
- BUYPASS also
entered into an agreement with Hannaford Bros. Co., a 141-store
food retailer and wholesaler. BUYPASS will provide host-to-host
debit and EBT processing services for the store. Said Jim
Bongiorno, Retail Systems Manger at Hannaford Bros. Co., "We
were a BUYPASS customer but left in 1992 because of difficulty
gaining access to a major regional debit network in the
northeast... Since that time, the issue has been resolved, and
we are looking forward to working with BUYPASS
again."
- BUYPASS provides
processing for 50 of Norton's top 200 grocery store chains.
