Letters to the
Editor
Dear
Paul,
I have enjoyed
reading your Green Sheets for a long time, however I am
confused as to why you think the BSA is such a plus to any small to
medium ISO. I am a "small guy" as you stated in your letter and in my
opinion the BSA is and always has been for the "big guy" (I was a
member years ago). A group that is supposed to add standards to our
industry, after talking to them, I would check my wallet and make
sure I still had my watch!
To me this is the
best industry in the world to be in; but far too many people are in
for a quick buck. We see it all the time. I wish I had an answer on
how to add credibility to ISOs...some things you just can't
teach

OUTSTANDING
PERIODICAL. JUST RECEIVED MY COPY OF YOUR NEW GSQ. I've been in the
check guarantee and credit card processing sales business for some 15
years. Have been getting your Green Sheet for two years now.
Unequivocally the premier publication regarding these two areas of
sales available. It might be the only one, periodical, or newsletter
about this area, but it and you shoot straight. I mean I know you,
Paul Green, might be accused of being slanted in your reporting, due
to your association with CrossCheck, but you've never said you didn't
have an axe to grind. I like your check guarantee service so much, I
sell it, and your newsletter is looked forward to each month.
Frankly, I'd like to see you compare some of these check guarantee
services and credit card processing sales organizations the same way
you compared the terminals in the first issue of GSQ. I've
wanted to do this for two years. I think I will continue to drop some
comments off in the future.
Dear Mr.
Green,
In the January 12,
1998 issue of The Green Sheet, you identified Horizon and TASQ
as sources of remanufactured VeriFone equipment.
It is true that
these companies provide refurbished VeriFone equipment. But you may
not have been aware that VeriFone Finance is also a provider of
quality refurbished/remanufactured VeriFone equipment.
Our name may be
misleading. Many people associate the VeriFone name with NEW
equipment only. But, in addition to providing financing options for
qualified VeriFone customers, we also sell refurbished
equipment.
We, too, advertise
in the "paper version" of The Green Sheetóthough not as
conspicuously as the companies you mentioned. We do not have a full
page ad, but are listed in your Resource Guide.
And, while I am at
it, what are the rates for a quarter, half, and full-page ad in your
publication? Is there any space available?

Dear
Kary,
I will have
Suzanne contact you with rate information. It can also be found in
the media kit on The Green Sheet Web site at
http://the.greensheet.com. We are sold out of ad space in The
Green Sheet until March of 1999 but we do have some space left in
the May issue of GSQ, our color, quarterly magazine. This
publication reaches the same targeted readership- you may want to
check that out.

I read with
interest your first issue of GSQ and will be putting the
information therein to good use. I do have one question, though, one
of omission.
Occasionally in
the field I run across terminals by Direct Data and Omron. There was
no mention of these in any of the articles. Are these companies no
longer in business or did you just skip them for some
reason?

These companies
are no longer building new equipment in the category reviewed. I am
happy that the information is useful to you.

Dear Green
Sheet,
The Green
Sheet is a wonderful way to stay abreast of what's going on. You
read it like a newspaper. You go through it and read what interests
you. There is always something there to help you.
I think those of
us who have considerable experience in management and sales training
should contribute with useful information to help our industry in
"Letters to the Editor" or "Tales of Sales Experience" which pays
$100 to offset your cost to create articles.
When you help your
industry, everybody benefits. In addition, I never saw any industry
with such rapid change. It is important, even if you are not
learning, to stay informed of the changes, present and
future.
In this life, it
is important that we give as well as receive. If you like to write,
send something you feel can help people trying to learn and stay on
top of the latest developments.
Good
Luck!

As a small ISO,
I'm very concerned about the equity of my portfolio. In fact I'm not
sure whether I have any equity at all at this point. I would like to
know how can I ensure that I will build equity on my accounts. Will
registering with Visa and MasterCard make this possible? What are the
benefits of being registered?
As always your
work is greatly appreciated.

Dear
Golden,
Thank you for
your recent e-mail. Your questions will be best answered by reading
the columns of our guest writer, Bob Carr. The column is titled,

98:01:01, and 98:01:02 issues. If you do not have back issues, you
