I currently run a sales office for ANB in Seattle, WA. I have businesses wanting to accept credit cards that unfortunately ANB can't process. I was wondering if you knew which banks & their phone numbers processed merchants in the Travel Industry, Mail Order Vitamin Business, Phone Cards, etc.

Thank you for your response and help.
Lori

Dear Lori,

I suggest you contact Janco Merchant Services, Inc. at janco@cyberia.com or (717)227-9720. They have a classified ad posted on The Green Sheet's free classified section, category: High Risk Merchants.

I was going to read The Green Sheet but when I saw a quote from First Premier Bank (a well-known Visa scam operation) I assumed you are just a front to provide referrals for them and other scams.

You are judged by the company that you keep.

Richard

Richard:

We talk about many businesses within the pages of The Green Sheet. Given 26 issues per year and over 115K words in stories and 10 to 15K in letters to the editor, (which is where you will see your comments) we probably name many companies that someone has a problem with. Would you care to share any details as to why you believe First Premier Bank is a "SCAM" program?

A recent (just one of many) direct mailing from First Premier offers in at least 14 pt type on the front of the mailing piece:

"Guaranteed unsecured $250 minimum VISA card"

However, on the reverse and in 4 pt type buried in the middle of legal mumbo jumbo is:

"Processing Fee: $35.00
  • Acceptance Fee: $119.00

Monthly Participation Fee: $6.00 ($72 annualized)"

  • In fact, their "fees" total $276.00 for $250 of unsecured credit.

Now, maybe this is legal, but I doubt anyone would not make the same offer of anyone else. This company obviously preys upon poor people and those who have suffered financial difficulties.

    Richard:

Thank you, your e-mail will appear in one of the December issues of The Green Sheet print version and will go on-line.

    Paul,

I wanted to thank you for the effort you went to provide the information found in the Check Study of 1997. I found the information very interesting and consider the study to be very well done. The future of checks looks pretty good!

    Thanks Again,

    Mike Egan

    Mike:

Thanks for the kind words and I hope that all is well at CheckRite.

    Best of luck

    Hello,

I stumbled upon your Web page while doing some research for my wife who is an Independent Sales Rep specializing in new businesses in the San Diego and Los Angeles areas, and Internet/Mail Order businesses nationwide.

She has been an Independent Rep for 6 months and is consistently writing 20 contracts per month for merchant card services and credit card processing equipment (VeriFone, etc).

She generates her own leads via DBA lists and is now with an ISO that remits less than 30% of the commission contract and would like to write the same business, but place it with a reputable ISO known for their commission rates.

I am creating a Web page for her at my domain that should double the number of contracts from 20 to 40.

I know that these are not very large numbers, but they are extremely consistent. She does this as her own business and really enjoys working with the clients and they her, to the extent that more and more of her business is "Word of Mouth."

May I ask who you might specifically recommend in the ISO business that is known for it's reputability, agent support, and the highest commission schedule to place these contracts?

    Cheers,

    Thank You,

    Jeffery & Maryanne DeMarco

    Dear Jeffrey and Maryanne,

Please see our issue 97:01:01. It's available at www.greensheet.com "Prior Issues". We did a special report on the ISOs Looking for Agents listed in the Resource Guide, with details on their programs including commission structure. You may want to pay special attention to American National Bank, ANB.

Also, issue 97:09:01 gives details on specific Banks Looking for ISOs. The Resource Guide offers several other opportunities and many of the companies listed have Web sites and e-mail addresses which are linked.
