Letters to the Editor

Paul,

I really like the newsletter and I just recently learned of it. I am trying to work with it on the Internet and I have 2 comments. First, I can only print one article at a time. Is there any way to print the entire newsletter at once? Second, when I hit Return at the end on an article I get a message which says there must be some kind of error in reading the message. Can you help?

Dan B. Moser

Dear Dan:

Yes I can help, and you are correct, we have not made it easy to print the entire Green Sheet. The Green Sheet has a subscription cost, and is copyrighted material. Although we currently password only the current issue, we have a number of new features coming that will not be available to the general public. Please see the on-line registration information, or contact The Green Sheet at 800-757-4441 for more information.

Dear Paul,

Your newsletter has been of great assistance to my company in training new ISOs. My only negative comment is that I question how your new advertising acceptance will affect your point of view toward companies that either do not advertise or cannot afford to. As an example, my company is only two years old. As you know, the majority of leases accepted are 4-year term. Therefore, before I see a sufficient cash flow I must get through a full cycle of lease terms. Obviously, due to tight cash flow advertising is not in the current budget. How will this affect our ability to get your attention on a go forward basis when you may be subsidized by my older more established competition?

By the way, a story you might want to look into is how other leasing companies are able to accept so many bad credit leases. I believe there will be a large industry shake-up as a result of all the sub-par paper being floated. If I am wrong I would certainly like to read about it in your news letter.

Thanks for your time.

Regards,

Corey M. Saltier

Corey:

These are both important questions to The Green Sheet. First, let me tell you that our plan for 1997 was to move up from our 1996 six page layout, to 16 pages over the course of the year. This move permits us to also move up from about 2800 words to about 5200 words. I believe that we will likely achieve this level in either the last issue of April or the first issue of May. I suppose that much like the leasing cycle you are waiting to see complete, you will simply need to wait and see how I handle questions or criticism of advertisers.

If you have been reading The Green Sheet for any period you know that I am very outspoken about a wide variety of issues in the Financial Services marketplace, and for now I will simply say that advertising will not change this direction.

The issue of small companies not having the financial strength to advertise is also an important question. Over the last couple of years, we have been successful through both the Resource Guide and articles to bring the information about small organizations to The Green Sheet readers. It remains our intent to continue down this path, and we continue to look for businesses like yours.

We are obviously looking for organizations that bring some unique money saving or making opportunities, over those that are doing the same thing the same way. After all, we are also looking for good story material .

I can tell you that long before Property Resource Management became a premier supplier of site survey resources, or ICVERIFY placed thousands of sites or received investment capital, we introduced them to the ISO marketplace through the pages of The Green Sheet.

As it relates to your last question about sub-par lease paper, we will do some research and ask some of the companies that we work with for an answer to this question.
