A Thing Who is Authorize.Net?

Who Is Authorize.Net?

If you are faced with a merchant who doesn’t have an Internet storefront or the knowledge of how to “e-nable” their company, Go2Net’s Authorize.Net may be your answer. Authorize.Net develops, markets, and sells products and services that provide solutions for authorizing, processing, and managing credit card and electronic check transactions over the Internet. Their server-based payment solutions enable merchants to process credit card and electronic check transactions in a secure, real time environment 24 hours a day and in over 150 currencies.

Authorize.Net removes barriers that might prevent merchants from doing business on the Net. All merchants need to process online orders are 1) a credit card merchant account, and 2) a computer with an Internet connection and a Web browser.

Since Authorize.Net uses a standard Internet interface, it is compatible with any browser and any platform. In fact, a merchant doesn’t need an Internet storefront to conduct eCommerce. Using Authorize.Net’s Virtual Terminal solution transactions take an average of 3 to 5 seconds. “As an essential component of eCommerce, we are the defacto choice for Internet-based payment processing,” said Roy Banks, Authorize.Net executive vice president of global sales and marketing.

Currently, more than 87,000 merchants use the four-year-old company’s services. Much of this growth is due to the efforts of Authorize.Net’s network of more than 885 ISOs and acquiring banks that resell their products and services. “Authorize.Net is ideally suited for the reseller distribution channel. We are reseller-friendly and have pioneered the way in which residuals are paid to resellers selling payment gateway services. We have developed multiple revenue streams for our resellers and offer very competitive buy rates,” said Banks.

Authorize.Net solutions work with any business model, including Internet, call centers, and retail. Their products can benefit both online and traditional merchants by performing real-time online transactions, processing periodic billing, protecting against fraudulent transactions, providing access to sales data from any computer, eliminating the need for additional hardware or software, and supporting an unlimited number of users simultaneously. Authorize.Net’s products include Virtual Terminal, WebLink, and eCheck.Net. “Our value is that we have a mature platform that makes e-commerce easy to achieve for merchants of any size,” continued Banks.

Products

Virtual Terminal

Authorize.Net’s Virtual Terminal is ideal for merchants who do not have an Internet storefront but who still want to process transactions online. The Virtual Terminal allows these merchants to manually enter transactions. It is host-based it is housed completely on the Authroize.Net server so merchants don’t have to get any additional hardware, bandwidth, or even software. What this means is that businesses can authorize, process, and manage credit card transactions from any computer with an Internet connection and a Web browser. Virtual Terminal replaces standard authorization terminals or software and provides a solution for merchants who manually enter credit card transactions for mail or phone orders, while performing the transaction faster than dial-up authorization systems.

WebLink

Merchants who already have an existing Internet storefront can best be served by Authorize.Net’s WebLink. WebLink allows Internet-based businesses to authorize, process, and manage credit card transactions without the need to purchase additional software or hardware, or hire someone with the expertise to process Web payments. The Web site designer inserts a link to Authorize.Net. Authorize.Net supports most available shopping cart software, so it integrates easily with most e-commerce solutions.

With either the Virtual Terminal or the WebLink, merchants can manage the transactions at the batch level. The data is housed on the Authorize.Net server, which helps merchants with account management. They can view the daily transaction information, history of transactions, statistics, amounts, declines, voids, etc. They can also search by transaction, date, credit card number, transaction ID, customer, etc. Authorize.Net retains the data for one year and it can also be downloaded into text file.

eCheck.Net

We’re hearing a lot about electronic check payments lately and Authorize.Net has an eCheck solution as well. The company’s eCheck.Net product allows both online and traditional merchants to accept and process electronic check payments. Customers who wish to pay for a purchase with an electronic check select the electronic check option and either enter the requested bank account information directly to the Web site’s storefront or through the Authorize.Net Virtual Terminal. Authorize.Net initiates an ACH debit to the consumer’s checking account and transfers collected funds to the merchant’s account. The eCheck.Net system notifies merchants of failed debit attempts, including NSF returns.

Traditional merchants without commerce-enabled Web sites can also use eCheck.Net to handle periodic billings. As will all electronic check transactions, written customer authorization is always required and transactions are not guaranteed. eCheck.Net transactions appear on a customer’s bank statement as “ECHECK TRANSACTION” and the merchant’s business name is listed as well.

What’s the difference?

There are a few features that make Authorize.Net unique. First, Authorize.Net was the first to market with a currency-conversion product. Authorize.Net and Planet Payment created the Planet Payment Gateway, which allows online merchants to accept credit card payments in more than 150 currencies.

Authorize.Net also provides fraud protection. HNC Software Inc.’s eFalcon Internet fraud detection solution is integrated into Authorize.Net’s Internet payment gateway. Merchants have the option of screening their transactions for fraud through the combined technologies of Authorize.Net and eFalcon. Using sophisticated neural networks, scores, and rules to identify fraudulent shoppers in real-time on the Internet, eFalcon can help reduce fraud losses.

Authorize.Net also provides GoSubmit.Net, a search engine submission technology that helps online merchants successfully launch and promote their eBusinesses. With Authorize.Net’s GoSubmit.Net service, online merchants can have their site automatically submitted to more than 1,500 search engines. Unlike most search engine submission providers, GoSubmit.Net provides a technology that continuously manages a Web site’s presence on the search engines, keeping pace with search engines’ changes in methodology for listing search results. GoSubmit.Net incorporates these changes and resubmits Web sites on a monthly basis.

Authorize.Net merchants also benefit from with sales tax calculation services and shipping address validation services provided by Esalestax.com. The Two Esalestax.com products, CertiCALC and CertiSHIP can save time and money by calculating proper taxes, controlling returned deliveries due to incorrect addresses, and verifying credit card billing addresses and merchandise ship-to addresses.

Finally, Authorize.Net backs both its agents and merchants with 24-hour, 7-days a week free support.

Who Uses Authorize.Net?

Over 87,000 merchants use Authorize.Net. The size of these merchants range from small mom-and-pops to large locations. Banks told us, “In the early days, our resellers sold our products and services primarily to small mom and pop merchants because that was where the greatest need, demand, and opportunity existed.” While there is still incredible market demand for Authorize.Net’s services by small and medium sized merchants, Authorize.Net is seeing more and more larger merchants adopt its technology. “We have always been able to service merchants of any size.”, continued Banks.

There are no technological boundaries or limitations to the Authorize.Net system that prevent it from servicing a particular size merchant or market segment. “The majority of our merchant base is comprised of small to medium sized merchants, but we are increasing our capture of the larger sized merchants thanks to the efforts of our resellers,” Banks continued. “The ISO reseller market is a great distribution channel for Authorize.Net to continue to sell its products and services to small, medium and large merchants.

The Agent Program

The Authorize.Net agent program is tailored for Financial Institutions, Independent Sales Organizations (ISOs), and Merchant Service Providers (MSPs) those organizations capable of creating new merchant accounts on one of the Authorize.Net compatible transaction processing networks. Currently, the transaction processing networks that are compatible with Authorize.Net are First Data Corporation, Global Payment Services NOVA Information Systems, Paymentech Processing Services, and Vital Processing Services “We are a pioneer in developing the reseller distribution channel. We’ve been sensitive to the financial opportunities for ISOs,” said Banks. “We have one of the most reseller-friendly programs in the payment processing industry and we attribute all of our success to our resellers.”

Creating Authorize.Net accounts is a easy for Authorize.Net agents. Agents can create new Authorize.Net accounts in about five minutes from any Web browser by logging on to their password-protected site and accessing the Authorize.Net Agent menu. After the agent sets up the merchant account and the merchant logs on to activate it.

Banks tells us that Authorize.Net is currently looking for “ISOs that want to make money selling a preferred payment gateway solution that’s stable, easy to integrate and use.” Online training materials are available and Authorize.Net has a team of professionals that provide reseller training at the reseller’s location. They also provide comprehensive telephone support to assist resellers in their efforts to sell and manage their business with Authorize.Net.

Authorize.Net is a part of the Go2Net Network. On July 26, 2000, Go2Net signed a definitive agreement to merge with InfoSpace, a leading global provider of cross-platform merchant and consumer infrastructure services.
