Dear
Paul:
Just
received your latest issue of The Green Sheet and wanted to congratulate
you on a fine publication with a lot of interesting ads and text.
Thank
you for announcing in your newsletter our lawsuit against Cardservice
which is the reason we brought the suit in the first place. The illegal
practice of copying our report to avoid paying for additional
subscriptions is hard to police-apparently this announcement helped. Our
income from reprints jumped immediately and hopefully eliminated a few of
our problems with people putting our newsletter on the Internet and
in-house computer networks
Thank
you for being a subscriber since April 1993.
Regards,
H.

Dear
Green Sheet
As
requested, I’m sending in my “Letter to the Editor” on the ETA
meeting in Chicago.
In
a word: WOW!
Probably
the best part about it was that we were finally able to put faces with
names we had only talked to by phone or e-mail. We traded innumerable
business cards and learned of new developments “coming down the pike”
with our current relationships.
But
there were other great reasons to attend, too. We got the scoop on the
latest and greatest in all aspects of our industry. We met MasterCard
employees-they are actually just people, too! Not just anonymous rule
makers off in New York.
We
also spoke at length with many other veteran sales people in the industry.
We even met some great attorneys from our own hometown-who actually know
our industry.
All
the big software, wireless, ATM, and equipment vendors were there.
Demonstrations galore! And all in one place. How convenient.
The
educational sessions personally taught me a lot about payments and
underwriting that I did not know. And this new knowledge has already
helped me package my deals better.
As
we expected, there were several ISOs there, hawking their “be all-end
all” programs. The real challenge seems to be to listen to the features
and benefits and not get too carried away. You have to figure out the
tough questions to ask them back. I suppose that’s really true of any
presentation in any industry.
We
also noticed the renewal of many old friendships, which seem to transcend
the changing of companies and titles. That was impressive-and speaks to
the “small world” of the payments industry.
In
closing, we are very thankful for the opportunity to attend through the
Wyatt Baxter Scholarship Fund. Attendance gave us renewed energy and
information to get out there and grow! And we are already planning for the
next one in San Diego.
Thanks
again to those of you who contribute to this fund.
Sincerely,
Robert
Mohon

Hi:
Thought
I would pass this on. Today, MaryAnn from Visa compliance San Fransicso,
CA called me to let me know my website was not in compliance.
Here
is what I found out: Like many of you, you have more than one banking
relationship so you can secure every merchant account possible. I do too.
One was offshore banking for Travel and Telemarketing. Come to find out, I
wasn’t in compliance for this. According to MaryAnn, if a merchant is
located in the USA, they must process through a bank located in the USA.
Of course, I promptly removed my offshore references and will no longer
send merchants that way.

Dear
Green Sheet:
I
wish to find out more about what Banks require to register agents as ISOs.
I understand that one requirement is a $10,000 V/MC registration fee.
Where can I learn more?
Also,
can I register with Amex, Discover, or Diners Club? And what income
opportunities do they have to offer?
Thank
you so much for your time and assistance.

Mike:
You
can place a free classified ad on www.greensheet.com and also post your
openings to the ISO Forum on our Web site. Please e-mail your announcement
of the job openings to Suzanne Luse, Asst. Editor at greenshttx@aol.com
and we will include the announcement in the FYISOs column in an upcoming
issue of The Green Sheet.
I
think these options would work best for this these types of job
opportunities. The display ads in The Green Sheet are currently sold out
and the Resource Guide listings are an annual listing.
