iSwipe Turns iPaq into Card-processing Terminal

iSwipe Semtek Innovative Solutions Corp. Semtek Innovative Solutions Corp. has introduced the iSwipe three-track magnetic stripe card reader for Compaq iPaq pocket PCs.

Any iPaq equipped with a wireless modem can now also function as a mobile card processing terminal with an iSwipe reader attached to it. Part of Semtek's line of "Mobile Swipe" devices for handhelds, the iSwipe reader clips onto the iPaq and can be used as a mobile solution for a variety of consumer services, including collecting payment information and other data on existing and potential customers.

The mobile readers are useful in hospitality, retail and law-enforcement environments for card-present point-of-sale transactions and ID verification. They provide improved speed, accuracy and cost savings with every swipe.

Running on "Micro-power," a patent-pending technology, the iPaq requires no batteries; power usage is also reduced when the device goes into sleep mode. When a card is swiped through the reader, data on the card is decoded and transferred to the handheld's database. Credit card processing services can be arranged through a number of Semtek partner organizations.
