Letters to the Editor

Dear Paul:

I’m hoping you might be able to help me with some information. First off, your publication is a wonderful tool that helps us run a better business. Keep up the great work!

My name is Bill Harovas and I’ve been in the payment processing business for six years. 95% of what we do today is for Internet merchants. I currently get about 30% of my leads coming from International merchants (primarily from Canada). Do you know of any international banks that have an ISO program to accommodate International merchants?

Currently we require a U.S. checking account and address to do business with these merchants. We are looking to process in multiple currencies and deposit into the merchant’s home bank. Also we would need to establish merchant ID numbers using their foreign social security number. What type of suggestions do you have? We need some solution quickly. Any direction you could give to me on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Warmest regards and Happy New Year!

Bill Harovas, NetCommerce Group, Inc.

Bill:

In order to process Visa or MasterCard transactions internationally, the sale must originate and settle within the same region (there are seven regions). For example, a transaction that takes place in Canada can not be settled by a U.S. bank because of the regional segmentation of the card associations.

There are ISO programs available abroad, but to be an ISO of an international bank the ISO must solicit merchants within that given region.

It is my understanding that rules and regulations are under consideration that would perhaps change the view on this matter, but I am afraid I don’t have any additional information.

I suggest you contact Vaden Landers, Bancard Consulting Group at (800) 801-9552 or bancardconsulting@compuserve.com for further information.

Good Selling! Paul Green

Hello:

I was wondering if you could answer a question for me:

Where do you find out what Visa/MC interchange rates are? Are they published and if so, where?

Thank you for your help.

Sincerely, Alyson

Alyson:

The April 1999 Visa Interchange rates were published by The Green Sheet, Inc. in issue 990201. Go to http:// www.greensheet.com and click on “Prior Issues”. The issues are listed by issue number. Click on the article “Visa Price Increases 1999”.

Dear Green Sheet:

Hope everything’s going well for you. The January 10 issue is fantastic! I’m sure you’re not surprised to hear that Hypercom is extremely pleased with the quality of coverage.

Again, thanks so much for your professionalism.

Kindest regards, Jack Bunting

Greetings:

How do I locate a bank providing merchant banking services? Specifically, a credit card acquiring bank and one that issues ISO agreements.

Your assistance and direction are greatly appreciated.

Regards, Rich Gurnett

Rich:

Please visit The Green Sheet Online and click on Resource Guide.

The Resource Guide listing “Banks Looking for ISOs/MSPs” has several banks for you to contact. Additionally, there are numerous ISOs listed who are also looking for agents.

Dear Julie:

Per our conversation, following is an example of the free e-zine/newsletter we send to people who have subscribed at our Web site. You may remember that I own an independent agency for CSI and not only specialize in the Internet, but publish a free newsletter which can be subscribed to online at www.expandyourbusiness.com.

I am a subscriber to The Green Sheet and I have noticed that many articles which appear in The Green Sheet could be great contributions to this resource. I would like permission to enclose some of these articles from time to time to share with our subscribers.

Of course, I will always credit the author and include contact information for both the author and The Green Sheet, including your phone number and Web site address. In theory, this should drive traffic to your Web site and increase your subscribers also.

In addition, I will always send you a copy of The ECommerce Update for your review. If the free newsletter or the credits to the author and/or The Green Sheet is ever not appropriate in any way, just call or e-mail to let me know.

Thank you! Jack Kimball
